Attracting Birds
Notes from conversation with Roy Beckemeyer
Roy led bird monthly (weekly?) walks at Botanica from 2000 to 2008
- best generic food: black oil sunflower seeds
- birds are attracted to the sound of dripping water
- if you can incorporate a bird bath with the feeder it's even better
- critical to keep the feeder filled all the time
- any height OK
- give the birds areas near the feeder where they can fly in and look around for a while (to confirm it's safe)
- bird houses can help — best would be wren ot chicageee boxes with small holes
