Turning a CRT TV to vector

It's pretty easy to get lissajous curves but to go the next step has proven to be difficult. I was able to get good images on a 'scope using a computer sound card but they looked unrecognizable on the TV driving the coils with an amp. I tried doing an FFT on the output (2048 bins) and setting all the freqs for each bin up to 500+ Hz to be the same size on the X and Y and the result was not much better.
